Akismet = the spam killer, a must use plugin

Do you know what is the most used plugin in wordpress to stop spam comment? .. yap.. Akismet.actually we can use capthca form but some visitor not comfortable and get annoyed in filling captcha . so it possibly will reduce thier attention. an observation by SEOmoz shown that with captcha ON possibly a company will lose 3.2 % of conversion.

Akismet is very important plugin in WP . 34 out of 48 blogger used akismet in thier blog. It’s very important plugin to protect your blog from spam comment. latest version of akismet is 2.2.6 is available from July 2009.

When a new comment, trackback or pingback come to your blog detected by installed akismet it will forwarded to akismet web service to check is it a spam or not. if it detected not as a spam it will sent back to your site and displayed at comment area, if it detected as a spam it will saved in web service database for 15 day. you can review it for appoval or just leave it and automatically deleted.
From first released akismet downloaded for more than 1,8 milions times with everage 400 download per day.
More than 83% of total comment verified on bloghosphere by akismet detected as spam.

To activate akismet you need API key from wordpress.org. then how can you get yourAPI key? : To get your API key just registered with wordpress.org Once you start to sign up they offer either you want a free blog hosted on wordpress.com or just a user name. Just signed up for the user name if you run self hosted wordpress . Once that is completed your dashboard(from wordpress not yourself hosted blog) should pop up. If it doesn’t log in with the username and password you just entered. Once you get to the dashboard click on your profile and you’l find your api key there. copy paste this API and then place it in your self hosted blog and your akismet will protect your lbog from spam. see picture above for detailed.
